eBooks or Paperbacks?

This is a very well-known argument, and while both have their advantages, for me, a physical book is way better than an eBook. Here are a few reasons why!

1. There’s just something about that book smell that makes a book more enjoyable for me, and eBooks can’t offer that.

2. eBooks can have a negative effect on the eyes and cause you to strain your eyes. There are many that argue that their devices have a low glare option, but it is still difficult to read in some places where it’s sunny; and if you’re anything like me, the outdoors are my favourite place to enjoy a good book.

3. Physically holding a book and being able to clench my fingers around the covers of the book when things get interesting, is just an unmatched feeling that eBooks can’t give.

4. You don’t need a charger every time you would like to read!

5. No Wi-Fi or network connection is needed, it’s just you and your book against the world.

6. For me, my books serve as decorations for my room. There’s just an aesthetic aspect about having a bookshelf or pile of books all over your room or house.

7. Reading for me is a break from the real world, and a place for me to escape from reality. With eBooks being on my devices, I easily get distracted by notifications on my phone or laptop, and my train of thought just vanishes. With a physical book, I can be fully immersed in it.

8. I love borrowing books with friends, and eBooks don’t allow that since only one account is allowed to access your books.

9. Sometimes, and I’m sure every reader is guilty of this, I blank out and forget what happened in a passage that I had just read. With a physical book, it is so much easier to go back and forth than in an eBook.

10. There are tons of options to purchase used/second hand books, which gives us readers a wide range of cheap books to purchase. This helps with recycling as well! With eBooks, this is not a possibility.
