The Beekeeper of Aleppo – Christy Lefteri
This book is one of my all-time favourites. It made the fact that fiction can sometimes be more powerful than non-fiction, true. It takes you on a journey of heartbreak, despair, love, friendship, and most of all, finding the truth. The story had me in tears from the very start, and this continued throughout. I especially liked the fact that each chapter followed the tale of the past and the present; it helped tie everything together, as well as constantly keeps you intrigued. If there is one book you read, it should be this one.
The One Plus One – Jojo Moyes
This book is like a warm hug. It has everything from laughter and happiness, to reality and sorrow. The fact that the author is able to juggle a story that is at one moment light-hearted and the next so serious, makes the plot line all the more interesting. Her writing is very captivating and the word choice pulls you in deeper. This is a book that you can read over and over, and never tire of.
A Walk at Midnight – Alex Van Tonder
Apart from the past year and a half, mystery and thriller weren’t genres that I usually indulged in; but this novel definitely left me wanting more. It was my introduction to the genre, and I couldn’t have asked for a better one. Majority of mystery books allow you to establish the ending during the process of reading them, but this storyline leaves you in suspense until the very end!
The Blue Between Sky and Water – Susan Abulhawa
A story that will open your eyes to the situation in Palestine. A truly heart shattering story that is so close to reality. The fact that this piece of literature is written by a Palestinian author, leaves me in peace to know that the culture and truth behind the words are true. The writing is extremely captivating and becomes so personal, that it makes you believe you are one with the characters.
The Spanish Promise – Karen Swan
